WeChat—known as Weixin (微信) in Chinese—is a multi-purpose mobile app developed by Tencent that combines instant messaging, social media, and mobile payment features. Launched in 2011, it became the world's largest standalone mobile app by 2018, with over 1 billion monthly active users. Often referred to as China’s “app for everything” and a “super-app,” WeChat offers a wide range of features, including text and voice messaging, group broadcasts, video conferencing, mobile payments, social sharing, gaming, and real-time location sharing.
